Next Long Weekend Countdown
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: How current is the holiday data?
A: The data includes all major public holidays for all Australian States and Territories up to the end of 2027, incorporating observed days for weekend holidays where applicable.
Q: Why are some holidays marked as "(TBC)" or "(Part-day)"?
A: Holidays like the Royal Queensland Show or the AFL Grand Final Friday have dates that are often determined closer to the event. We mark them as (TBC) for transparency. Part-day holidays (like Christmas Eve in SA/NT/QLD) are official public holidays only for specific hours (e.g., 7 pm to midnight).
Q: Why isn't Anzac Day always observed on a Monday?
A: Unlike other national holidays, Anzac Day (April 25th) is traditionally observed on the day it falls, regardless of the weekend. However, some states (like WA) and the ACT legislated an additional public holiday when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday, which is reflected in our data.
Q: Does this tool include regional or local show holidays?
A: This app primarily focuses on state-wide public holidays to ensure accuracy across the broadest area. Regional show days (like local show days in Queensland, New South Wales, or the NT) are generally excluded due to their localized nature. Always check your relevant state government website (see Helpful Links) for those specific regional dates.
Q: What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?
A: For national holidays like Christmas Day or New Year's Day, if the official date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, an 'observed' public holiday is typically created on the following Monday or Tuesday. This app automatically includes these observed days in the countdown, ensuring you get the correct day off. Anzac Day (April 25th) is an exception, as it is usually taken on the 25th regardless of the day of the week.

About This Tool
This Next Long Weekend Countdown tool was created to provide a quick, accurate way to check the next upcoming public holiday for any state or territory. Since public holidays often vary greatly between states (especially for dates like Labour Day or the King's Birthday), this centralized resource aims to simplify your forward planning.
The core holiday data is manually compiled from official government sources spanning 2025, 2026, and 2027 to ensure high accuracy and minimal website upkeep. For data standardization, all holiday dates are stored and processed internally using the ISO 8601 date format (YYYY-MM-DD) before being converted to a human-readable format for display.
Happy planning!
